Sponsored Walk

FOBG ran a very successful Sponsored Walk/Run in May 2014 starting and finishing at school via Wimbledon Common. It raised over £1,600. A tremendous achievement by the whole school community. In 2013 we also raised over £4,000.

These fundraisers were billed as directly related to raising money for the school library (as well as Mabale and Faith in Action) so it was called Walking for Words. In previous years a Sponsored Cycle in Richmond park was organised.

Forms together with sponsorship money were returned into the FOBG box. There was some support to create Virgin Giving page. There was also an incentive of a prize of a mini ipad to the class that raised the most money. Hamptons International kindly sponsored the medals and mini Ipad.

How is it Organised
The most important thing to finalise is the route and this should be done ideally in the Spring term. Permission is required from the Wimbledon Common Rangers. Best to get a date as soon as possible and list the event with them to get their permission. They were needed to escort us over a few roads at the start. The creative work which should include a map and the route together with the sponsorship forms should go into book bags about 4-3 weeks escort us over a few roads at the start. The creative work which should include a map and the route together with the sponsorship forms should go into book bags about 4-3 weeks before. We had a list of who was taking part which we encouraged on arrival to tick off their names from.

We had Stephen Hammond MP to send us off on our way. Refreshments (fruit juice, bottled water and oranges) and were provided for the finish and Colin Isles, our ice cream man was at the finish too to entice those reluctant children home. Each child received a medal at the end.

Set Up and Clear Up
Very little to do. A couple of tables were put up to place the refreshments on. Hampton’s banner put up. Just needed a few bin bags to clear up at the end and put away banner and tables.
